What inspired you to get involved with Pain Support Jersey?
I joined in 2009 as a patient of the Pain Service, primarily to continue my physiotherapy exercises and manage my pain.
Can you tell us a bit about your role at Pain Support Jersey and what you enjoy most about it?
As vice chair of the charity committee, alongside Dr Chad Taylor (the chair), I help to lead the committee. I meet as many members as possible and offer support through friendly conversations. The committee works well together, pooling our strengths to manage the group’s day-to-day activities. I enjoy the friendship and support from PSJ, and volunteering keeps me busy.
How do you feel your skills or experiences make a difference in the work you do here?
I’m a people person, which helps me connect with members when they come to PSJ. My experience allows me to offer guidance and support during our conversations.
Is there a particular moment or memory at the charity that stands out as special to you?
I’m incredibly proud of what PSJ has become. It gave me a lifeline when my pain was at its worst, and now it’s helping me manage my pain. Seeing the happy, relaxed faces of members at activities and events motivates me, as do the invitations to speak or take part in various events.
What’s something about you that might surprise people or something unique about yourself?
I make a mean strawberry pavlova, which is often requested by my nieces!
What’s one thing you look forward to when working with the Pain Support Jersey team?
I look forward to seeing my friends and the satisfaction of helping others.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking about getting involved with Pain Support Jersey, whether as a member, volunteer, or supporter, what would it be?
It’s a friendly group of diverse people that helps you feel stronger and better equipped to manage your own pain.
How would you describe the Pain Support Jersey team in just three words?
Friendly, knowledgeable, fun.
